The Marion Parks & Recreation Foundation is leading a $1.3 million capital campaign to support the Central Plaza, which is currently under construction in City Square Park in Uptown Marion. The project is scheduled to reach substantial completion in December 2024. Community members have an opportunity to support the campaign and celebrate their connection to Uptown Marion by purchasing commemorative bricks. The bricks, available for $100 each, will be a permanent feature prominently displayed around the depot pavilion and fire pits in the plaza. The Central Plaza will serve as a dynamic regional asset for attracting residents and visitors to Marion for years to come. Other amenities include an ice-skating loop, enclosure of the depot, new public restrooms, live performance space, water features, public art, decorative lighting and more. “Purchasing a brick is a great opportunity to celebrate family milestones and recognize or memorialize loved ones,” said Al Rowe, co-chair of the Central Plaza capital campaign. “It is also a way to honor what makes Marion special – it’s past, present and future.” The customized, personal inscription can include up to three lines with a limit of 13 characters on each line.
